"The next skater to take the ice was Gabrielle Daleman (@gabby_daleman ), from Canada. After the short program, she was in 7th place. She had missed her triple toe-triple toe, the jump she is known for. However, this was a new day, and she only was 9.97 points away from a podium. It was a long shot, but it was within her reach. Gabrielle needed a flawless performance. Her first jump was a triple toe-triple toe, but it was not flawless. Her chances of winning a medal were getting out of sight. On her next jump, she fell down. Any medal chance, it was gone. She almost fell on her next jump. Top five was out of the question. Then she fell again. And again. The crowd surrounding the ice rink tried to cheer her on, but out there on the ice, she was alone. It was a dark moment. Gabrielle knows how those feel like. She's encountered them before. When she was a little girl, she was bullied for a learning disability similar to dyslexia; around the time she was eleven, Gabrielle developed an eating disorder; and since Daleman started as a gymnast, she had a body that wasn't considered within the figure skater's archetype. She was told she was not pretty enough, not graceful enough. And yet there she was, as a figure skater, on Olympic ice. She finished her program. She cried for 20 minutes before she emerged to face the reporters. And she'll emerge once more. After all, just days before, she had earned an Olympic gold medal in the Team Event (@teamcanada ). Don't doubt her, not Gabrielle. This is a woman who found out she had pneumonia, laced up her skates, fought through it, and still landed seven triple jumps to win the Canadian national figure skating title." - Comrade (the human)

"I shouldn't be ashamed to tell people what I've been through and what I'm going through because it's life and it brought me to where and who I am today." - @gabby_daleman
