Apparently there are 1000 #torri gates on the walk up to the top of #fushimiinari shrine... Let's see, shall we?
Today has been a whirlwind of emotion. I got some terrible news which I'm not going to think about until I'm back in England, however it weighed me down and made me question everything. Then I found out Stephen Hawking, one of my heroes, has died. I have to no way to articulate that kind of loss. Then this morning I returned to Fushimi Inari. I went there 2 years ago and it was an awful experience. I was too unwell to make it to the top and it was heaving with tourists. However, this time it was an incredible, emotional experience. I arrived at sunrise to miss the tourist crowds and ascended to the top with just the sound of the birds and trees to accompany me. I left a lot of doubt and pain at the top of that mountain. In the end, I realise we all just have to take life step by step and just go with the flow. Some things are out of our control and there's no use fighting them. We will all reach our destination one way or another, and right now I can only appreciate each moment as it comes. .#fushimiinari#japan#travel#kyoto#traveljapan
Japanese Shrine goodness ⛩ We got up early morning to do the Fushimi Inari hike and this is what welcomed us 🙏🏼
kyoto fotologue no.2 🇯🇵 i stayed in hanayashiki ukifune-en with @xiaoutty . it’s a traditional ryokan right by the uji river, a few blocks away from the byodoin temple (a unesco world heritage site). i’m still dreaming about that raw cuttlefish (i CANNOT find another one as good as that!) & that seared wagyu beef we had for dinner. 🤤 the other photos were in fushimi inari taisha with its thousand torii. nikki went off the main steps at one point & we started hiking on an empty bamboo trail by the cliff. that is how foreigners die while visiting a foreign land. our bladders saved us when we had to go pee so we trekked back to the last restroom we saw on the main trail. one of these days, i’ll try hiking to the very top. maybe even make a wish. #joietravelstojapan#kyoto#fushimiinari#ujiriver#ryokan#hanayashikiukifune
After visiting the Hongan-Ji Temple, we headed to Fushimi Inari Taisha. I really wanted a long shot with many torii gates and depth, but there was a lot of tourist traffic. This shot took some patience to capture.
