Today's #trainingtiptuesday message is training is for everyone!
When you bring a pet into your life there are many basics people think about like money for the vet, toys and food, and time to spend for exercise. But the most important, money and time for education or training, somehow seems to not make it on many people's lists! Why is that?
Training isn't just for behavior problems. And as trainers we often get asked when to begin the training process with a pet. Want to know our secret? The instant you get them! Training is essential to not only get the well mannered dog you are looking for but is also essential for public safety. And the instant you bring him home he begins to learn from you. What are you teaching him?
It is much easier to start him off right versus waiting until a problem arises down the road and have to undo several months or even years of reinforcement.
Want to know our other secret? It is never too late to start training. Yes, it might be easier to teach a brand new puppy before they have made any other associations but an old dog can learn new tricks! (And so can you!) SO, no matter how old or young your dog is and no matter how much experience you think you have as a dog handler, training is essential for success for you and your dog and our community.
