The Doors' self-titled album was released 51 years ago today. The debut LP made the band immortal, thanks to songs like "Break on Through (to the Other Side)," "The End" and the immortal "Light My Fire." From Jim Morrison's acid-fueled studio meltdown to "Light My Fire" being the first song Robby Krieger ever wrote, we put together 10 facts you likely didn't know about the album. Check out the full list at RollingStone.com.
Light My Fire was primarily written by Robby Krieger who wanted to write about one of the elements: fire, air, earth and water.
In an interview, he said "I was living with my parents in Pacific Palisades – I had my amp and SG. I asked Jim, what should I write about? He said, 'Something universal, which won't disappear two years from now. Something that people can interpret themselves.' I said to myself I'd write about the four elements; earth, air, fire, water, I picked fire, as I loved the Stones song, 'Play With Fire,' and that's how that came about." Krieger created the melody, and wrote most of the lyrics.
Jim Morrison wrote the second verse, and what was originally resembled a folk song quickly developed as Ray Manzarek came up with the iconic organ intro, and John Densmore came up with the rhythm.

During When The Music's Over, Jim recited what went down, calling the cop " a little blue man, in a little blue hat ". This caused the lights to switch on and a couple of cops to enter the stage. Jim offered one of the cops the mic, saying " say your thing, man". however, the cops yanked the mic from his hand and dragged him offstage, Where they roughed him up and arrested him for inciting a riot, indecency and public obscenity.
