REPOST from the previous years explaining what and why we do the #ci_ashtag project. Starting last year, we added the year to the tag. If you plan on participating, please tag your photos with #ci_ashtag2018 , do not DM them to us. Our DM box is full. Thx!
After a few comments and concerns about the #AshWednesday#CI_ASHTAG Project, we felt we should explain what the project is. We started this project almost 5 years ago when we had about 50 followers. After attending #Mass and seeing how awesome and humbling it was seeing so many fellow #Christians with an ash cross on their forehead and publicly proclaiming “I am a #sinner in need of God’s #grace and #mercy.” We enjoy this special day, this one day, that you can see who your fellow believers of #Christ and especially your #Catholic brothers and sisters.
Now as we mentioned, we have received some DMs and comments regarding us posting fellow brothers and sisters #ashtag selfies. A few of our followers’ feel it’s a form of boasting about ones ashes as they point out in today’s #Gospel Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21. We thought this as well in the beginning, and not saying that possibly a few folks may be, but we came to think, “What is the difference of attending Ash Wednesday service and walking around all day with ashes on your forehead or posting a selfie to social media with your ashes to proclaim your sinfulness and asking for/showing God’s grace on there?” We don’t believe there is any difference.
By wearing our ashes and either walking around town or posting it on social media, we show we are united as one in Christ, a member of the universal #church and together we strive to help each turn from sin, repent and live the life Christ has asked us to live, and that is to worship Him and be in service to others.
Out of this yearly project, so many of those that participated began to chat with each other and made new friendships. Many continue to this day. The other beautiful benefit of this project is that as you go through all the pictures tagged with #ci_ashtag2017 , you begin to see how diverse and amazing our Catholic Church is! We have people from all continents posting! That, to us, is absolutely inspiring.
Always a favorite to post each year - what did you get, friends? I got the “whoops, forgot to check!” LOL It’s mostly smudged now! ~ Martina #AshWednesday#Lent#Ashes#ashtag
